The wild lupine is a member of the pea family, that favors dry sandy soil, and open sun to partial shade. Here in upstate New York, they are found in the pine barren habitats.
Growth of these beautiful flowers are encouraged on many state and private sites because the endangered Karner Blue Butterfly's life cycle is tied to these plants.
